Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) has rapidly become the global measure of sustainability and ethical impact. ESG is not just a performance metric, it’s a journey that we must all take... for the planet, and for people and businesses to prosper. Mitie’s commitment to sustainability and social change underpins everything we do.

Do, lead, deliver

We are a profitable, socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business, but there’s still so much to do.

Our ESG strategy sets out actions and outcomes within the Mitie Group to drive positive change, such as reaching net zero years ahead of the UK Government’s 2050 target. And how we’re supporting and enabling our customers to set and reach their own goals.

Through our ‘do, lead, deliver’ approach, we will continue to influence this space. Being a proactive leader is the most effective way to combat climate change and increase social value in the communities we serve.

ENVIRONMENT: CONSERVATION OF A NATURAL WORLD

We focus on our ambitious, industry-leading Plan Zero initiative to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2025 (for direct operational emissions and by 2035 for indirect emissions).

SOCIAL: OPPORTUNITIES, COMMUNITIES AND PEOPLE

We create quality jobs, break down employment barriers and invest in people’s learning, equality, diversity and inclusion to deliver more social value.

We ensure effective management and oversight of risk and compliance with ethical and legal standards, and always operate transparently and responsibly.

Highlights in 2022

Cutting vehicle emissions

We have transitioned 45% of our fleet to electric and in December 2022, we welcomed our 3,000th electric vehicle (EV) to our fleet. As of April 2023, we have 3,194 EVs on the road.

Making more buildings carbon-neutral

Nine Mitie buildings are now decarbonised with 100% of energy from renewable sources.

Winning awards for social mobility

For our employment programme, Ready2Work, and our diversity learning programme, Count Me In.

Supporting our communities

19,298 hours of volunteering by Mitie colleagues delivered in our communities in FY23.

Adding to supplier diversity by 100%

Doubling the number of diversely owned SME suppliers, and charity and social enterprise suppliers.

Moving up the rankings

Rated Platinum in the Sustainable Facilities Management Index.
